Real Club de Campo Málaga
|
Opened in 1925 by the King of Spain Parador Malaga de Golf is the oldest golf course in Andalucia. It is believed that the construction of the course can be traced back to the British Royal Family, in particular Princess Beatrice of Battenberg. In 1925 construction began on the original nine hole course under the direction of Harry Shephard Colt (who also designed and built Wentworth). Later under the direction of Tom Simpson who is probably better known for Turnberry and Muirfield in Scotland, it was expanded to 18 holes. This Championship course is best described as being partly a links course and partly a parkland course. Requiring both finesse and strategy the course offers both a challenge to the experienced golfer, and kindness to the novice. Unique in its character on the Costa del Sol, Real Club de Campo de Golf is readily accesible being only one kilometre from Malaga's Pablo Picasso International Airport.
